Prof. George Van Driem’s Lecture on Trans-Himalayan Languages

Department of Bhutia, Limboo and Lepcha organised a special lecture on the topic of Trans - Himalayan languages

On 22nd June 2022, Departments of Bhutia, Limboo and Lepcha organised a special lecture on the topic 'Trans-Himalayan languages' by Prof. George Ben Driem, world renowned historical linguist, University of Switzerland. He has numerous publications under his belt including recent publications of The Tale of Tea and Ethnolinguistic Prehistory: The Peopling of the World from the Perspective of Language, Genes and Material Culture.
The programme started at 11am with a welcome speech by Mrs Asha Subba, Head, Department of Limboo. A brief introduction of the eminent speaker was shared by Dr B. L. Khamdhak, Department of Limboo followed by special lecture on the topic. A question-answer session was also accommodated which saw active participation by teachers and students alike. Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mrs P. C. Thomas Lepcha Head, Department of Lepcha. The programme was attended by HoDs and faculties of Departments of Lepcha and Bhutia, Sikkim University, HoDs, faculties and students of different departments of NBBGC. The programme was coordinated by Dr. B. L. Khamdak, Department of Limboo and Dr. Kunzang Namgyal, Department of Bhutia.
