Two-day Mathematics Training and Talent Search Programme (MTTS) equips Sikkim’s bright minds with mathematical excellence

The Dept. of Mathematics, NBBGC hosted a two-day Mathematics Training and Talent Search (MTTS) Programme on September 27-28, 2023. The event gathered 50 participants, meticulously chosen from various colleges across Sikkim, with the goal of refining their mathematical skills and uncovering the vast potential within the realm of mathematics.

The programme was enriched by the presence of esteemed resource persons, Dr. A. J. Jayanthan, Visiting Professor, Kerala School of Mathematics, and a distinguished MTTS expert, and Biswajit Deb, Associate Professor, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) and a dedicated MTTS faculty member. The inaugural function witnessed the esteemed presence of the Principal, ADM, Dean HoDs and faculty members of various departments.

The event commenced with a warm welcome address by the coordinator, Mr. P Dahal, setting a motivational tone for the participants. Following this, Mr. Kshitttiz Chettri, Head, Department of Mathematics, NBBGC provided a comprehensive introduction to the MTTS program, elaborating on its objectives and emphasizing the immense potential it holds for aspiring mathematicians. Further elevating the excitement, Dr. D. Purohit, the esteemed Principal of NBBGC, addressed the audience, expressing the institution’s strong commitment to nurturing mathematical talent and fostering a culture of academic excellence. Dr. Purohit emphasized the significance of initiatives like MTTS in shaping the academic and professional trajectory of young mathematicians in Sikkim.

The resource persons, Dr. A. J. Jayanthan and Biswajit Deb, shared their profound insights, experiences, and invaluable knowledge through engaging addresses. They inspired the participants to delve deeper into the world of mathematics, encouraging critical thinking and analytical prowess to excel in this captivating field. The MTTS programme proved to be an enlightening and empowering experience, offering a platform for participants to enhance their mathematical skills and interact with esteemed mentors and fellow enthusiasts. The MTTS 2023 programme is jointly funded by MTTS trust and RUSA, NBBGC Tadong. The organizers of MTTS are optimistic that this programme will nurture a scientific temperament and enable participants to grasp the intricate beauty of mathematics.
