32nd Nepali Bhasa Manyata Diwas celebrated in NBBGC, Tadong

The Department of Nepali, NBBGC celebrated 32nd Nepali Bhasa Manyata Diwas on Wednesday, 23rd August 2023. Former Lok Sabha MP and Bhasa-Sangrami, Smt. Dil Kumari Bhandari, was the Chief Guest of the programme. During her address, she highlighted the entire process in the parliament regarding the inclusion of Nepali Language in the Eighth Schedule of Indian Constitution. She urged young minds to inculcate modern knowledge for the development of Nepali language. In the near future, artificial intelligence will become a challenge as well as an opportunity in the field of teaching-learning so everyone should be aware of this situation.

Dr. D. Purohit, Principal, NBBGC, Tadong was the special guest of the programme. He appealed to the students to share ideas and feelings in Nepali language despite opting for subjects other than Nepali.

Dr. Rajen Upadhyay, Assistant Professor, Department of History, NBBGC presented his paper on ‘History of Usage of Nepali Language in Sikkim’. He presented various evidence of documents written in Nepali language prior to the 18th century.

Dr. Udai Chettri, Head, Department of Nepali, NBBGC highlighted the importance of celebrating Bhasa Manyata Diwas. He reiterated that Nepali language has a good scope for future employment.

The programme also saw a College level inter-departmental Nepali poetry competition. Dr. Shobha Sharma, Vice Principal, NBBGC, Dr. Jiban Upadhyaya, Head, Department of Commerce, and Dr. Satyadeep S. Chhetri, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry were the jury members. Puja Chettri, Department of Nepali, Archana Rai, Department of Physics, and Sita Rai, Department of Botany stood first, second and third respectively.

Arbin Bhujel and Anjali Sharma were adjudged best students in traditional attire. Dr. Geeta Nirola, Associate Professor, Dr. Sarda Chhetri, Assistant Professor and Mr. Chandra Prakash Rai from the Department of Nepali were the judges for the traditional dress competition. Students from the Department of Nepali presented folk dance and folk-duet (Lok-Dohori) for the first time in the history of NBBGC, Tadong.
