World Environment Day Celebrated at Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College

Botanical Society, NBBGC in collaboration with the Eco Club, NBBGC celebrated World Environment Day with great enthusiasm and passion with a series of events in the College Seminar Hall.

The programme commenced with a mass plantation drive at the Dr. Mahindra Pradhan Memorial Botanical Garden, where many fruit tree saplings were planted to emphasize the importance of green spaces and biodiversity conservation. The event was graced by the Principal, Dr D. Purohit, ADM ma’am, HODs, faculty members, and UG/PG students, Department of Botany.

Following the plantation drive, a special lecture on biodiversity and its impact on climate change was delivered by Dr. Patrush Lepcha, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Sikkim University, shedding light on crucial environmental issues and how changes in biodiversity has made significant impacts on the climate.

                                               

An intra-departmental quiz was also organised in which 5 teams participated comprising of UG and PG students, Department of Botany covering major topics like biodiversity as a whole, famous personalities related to environment, botanists, and flora of Sikkim Himalaya.

To encourage student achievements in different fields, The Society felicitated three outstanding student achievers:

  1. Mr. Kingstoom Lepcha for clearing the SLET exam and showcasing academic excellence.
  2. Mr. Sanjay Rai and
  3. Ms. Salini Chettri for representing NBBGC, Sikkim, India, in international forums. The event concluded by a sharing of experiences by the achievers and interactive session.

This celebration of World Environment Day underscores NBBGC’s dedication to environmental conservation and the promotion of sustainable practices. Through collaborative efforts an d educational initiatives, the institute aims to inspire positive action for the protection and preservation of our planet’s precious ecosystems.
