Dr. Nancy C. Lhasungpa, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Sociology, NBBGC along with her team members- Ms. Viveka Gurung, Assistant Professor & Head, Dept. of Sociology, NBBGC, Mr. Norbu Wangchen, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Commerce, SGC Rhenock, and field investigators- Ms. Timsong Lepcha, Ms. Sejal Sharma and Mr. Karma Ngawang, organised a coordination meeting with the Centre Service Providers from various De-addiction, Detoxification & Rehabilitation Centres in Sikkim in the College Seminar Hall on Friday, 1st September 2023.
The meeting started with a brief introduction of the National Fund for Control of Drug Abuse (NFCDA) by Mr. Norbu Wangchen. Dr. Nancy C. Lhasungpa and Ms. Viveka Gurung presented their findings of the pilot study conducted in Freedom Detoxification & Rehabilitation Centre, Tathangchen from August 17-20, 2023. The findings were divided into three components- centre details, service providers, and in-patients.
Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) were also conducted in the second half. The broad themes for the FGDs were- challenges faced by centres, gaps/suggestions for better intervention, weaknesses/strengths of service provider s, and role of civil society.
The meeting was held to seek cooperation from the stakeholders for smooth conduct of the study on ‘Drug Abuse, Addiction and Rehabilitation in Sikkim’ sponsored by the National Fund for Control of Drug Abuse (NFCDA), Ministry of Finance, Government of India.
