MOCK ELECTION

A Mock Election was conducted by the Electoral Literacy Club, NBBGC headed by Nodal Officer, Ms. Makutaa Rai and team on 26th May 2022.
The main objective of the event was to give the students a better understanding of democracy, to help them prepare for their role as Electors, and to encourage their participation. Students were educated about the electoral process and were given a basic knowhow about the electoral mechanism in the country. They were given a hands-on experience about the actual voting process at the polls. Emphasis was laid on explaining the importance of voting and to stress the fact as to why every vote matters.
The ELC Nodal Officer along with the students of final semester, Department of Political Science enacted as Election Commission. Equal number of students from various departments under streams viz. B.A., B.Com and B.Sc. who had not cast votes were identified as the Electorate. Four international football clubs namely Arsenal, Juventus, Real Madrid and PSG were chosen to represent four political parties. Two players from each club were nominated by the Electorate as candidates for State Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha. This was done to avoid unnecessary controversy and make the entire event interesting for the students. The candidates shared their party manifesto to the Electorate and delivered speeches emphasizing on ethical voting.
The Nodal Officer educated the students regarding the voter registration process in the Electoral Roll. They were made aware of the eligibility criteria for enrolling as a voter in the country and also the fact that only registered voters can cast their vote. Eligible students above 18 years of age were made aware of registration through online mediums i.e., nvsp portal and voterhelpline app. College ID cards or voter card was used as proof of identity for the poll. A polling station was created in the college seminar hall to resemble an actual polling station. Five students were identified to act as polling party and Presiding officer. A police team was also included. The Nodal Officer and one non-teaching staff acted as Counting Officers. Results were declared after the counting. The programme was a success yielding positive feedback from the students with regard to the experience they had.
