Herbal and Botanical Garden inaugurated in the college campus

On September 21, 2022 Department of Botany, NBBGC in collaboration with Blooming Sikkim, a local NGO inaugurated a Herbal and Botanical Garden inside the college campus. The garden is established in the loving memory of Lt. Dr. Mahendra Pradhan, Associate Professor (Read.), Dept. of Botany (1993-2017). The programme was graced by Ms. Karuna Pradhan, wife of Lt. Dr. Pradhan, as Chief guest, Dr. D. Purohit, Principal, NBBGC, Mrs. Doma L. Zimba, ADM Officer, NBBGC, Mr Kshittiz Chettri, Dean (Student Affairs), Dr. Namrata Tamang, Head, Department of Zoology, Dr. Lhanjey Bhutia, Head, Department of Botany, other faculty members, members of Blooming Sikkim, and college students.

The Chief Guest Ms. Pradhan inaugurated the garden and expressed her desire to see the garden growing and students and other stakeholders should benefit out of such a facility. She also expressed gratitude towards Dept. of Botany, NBBGC for the initiative. In his address, Dr. Purohit appreciated the initiative to make this long dreamed programme a success. Inauguration of the garden was followed by plantation of locally important medicinal plants and other multipurpose tree species. Further, a cleanliness drive of the college campus was undertaken. Planting materials including medicinal plants and tree saplings were availed with the support from G. B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment, Sikkim Regional Centre, Pangthang and Dept. of Horticulture, Govt. of Sikkim. (Click here to read full report)
