One Day Legal Awareness Programme on Gender Issues

One Day Legal Awareness Programme on Gender Issues was organized by NBBGC in collaboration with Sikkim State Commission for Women, Government of Sikkim under the aegis of Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice (DISHA), Government of India on 22nd July 2022. The programme registered 117 persons including students and teachers of the college. Mrs. Chung Chung Bhutia, Chairperson, Khadi and Village Industries Board, Government of Sikkim graced the occasion as the Chief Guest of the day. Dr. D. Purohit, Principal, NBBGC welcomed the members with khada and a welcome speech. Resource persons from different fields presented their talks on different issues.
Mrs. Yousa Lachenpa, Member Secretary , Sikkim State Commission for Women talked on the issues of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace, Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013 and coveing other areas like Domestic Violence, POCSO and trends in youngsters concerning live-in-relationships and working outside state without proper verification of the employee. With live examples from the state she beautifully placed her talked and created awareness. Mr. Nirmal Manger, Master Trainer, Senior Journalist from Sikkim Chronicle spoke on Media on Gender Reporting where he covered issues with cyber crime, gender equality and gender violence. Mrs. Dhan Maya Subba, Superintendent of Police, Anti Human Trafficking Unit, Police Department, Government spoke on Human Trafficking, she highlighted the changing scenarios of our state, types of trafficking, sexual assault and the issues concerning our state. Ms. Sangila Dorjee, Clinical Psychologist, STNM Hospital, Government of Sikkim spoke on Mental Health and Students. She presented a talk on how our mind and body works and what mental health is and when to visit a psychologist.
Question and answer session saw active participation from students who had many queries and Resource Persons answered them. Chief Guest of the day gave a very energetic speech asking children to give back to society in whatever way they can and never think of oneself as someone who is weak. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Rashmi B Gurung, Assistant Professor, NBBGC and the programme concluded with lunch.
